Ben Sachs review of The Glass Castle was criticized based on the mood of the movie and the way the director tries to create a heartwarming film and failed. Sachs wrote " Short term was nuanced and heartfelt, but this feels overstated and hallow..." Sachs also says " Cretton wants to make an old-fashioned melodrama but fails to stylize the material in any compelling way." Sachs did not enjoy the way the film directors created The Glass Castle, or enjoyed the skills of the actors in the film.
